Jubilee round–up

It was a busy and fun Jubilee holiday in the Diocese of Down and Dromore. Here’s quick round–up and photo gallery of just some of what went on.

St Mark’s Newtownards had hundreds at their community Jubilee Garden Party which included a splendid cake cut by ‘The Queen and Prince Philip’.

St Mark’s Dundela held a Jubilee teaparty after their family service with donations going to support Thomas Dowling in their Youth Fellowship. Thomas is going to India this summer with a group from Belvoir Parish.

Christ Church Kilkeel had planned a ‘Big Lunch’ in the rectory garden but it poured with rain. Never mind, there’s always the church hall!

Seagoe had a programme of events in the presence of a rather convincing Queen lookalike, Mrs Vera Gallery. To mark the occasion, Vera and the (real) Mayor of Craigavon, Councillor Alan Carson, planted an Irish Yew in the cemetery.

The Parish of Annahilt got together with other churches in the area to host ‘Jubilee Picnic and Praise with music provided by Baillies Mills Accordion Band.

At St Columba’s Knock, the Sunday school and Brownies were treated to a Jubilee Party in the rectory garden on Saturday afternoon.

Evangelist in Charge at St Saviour’s Portadown, Sr Myrtle Morrison, climbed Slieve Donard with 250 others for ‘Fields of Life’. They lit a beacon at the top and raised thousands of pounds for the charity in the process.

Hollymount Church in the Parish of Down had a Jubilee Party on Saturday 2 which many of the local community attended.

Movilla Abbey had a huge community event on Monday 5 and lit a Jubilee beacon whilst Willowfield Church has a Family Fun day on 5 June,

Finally, there was a majestic service of Jubilee Celebration in Down Cathedral on Saturday 3.
