Bible Society staff in Syria still safe

Despite being able to hear the sounds of distant bombing, Bible Society staff in Aleppo, north–western Syria, are safe. They are taking the precaution, though, of not going outside the safe area where the bookshop and warehouse are located.

Their phone lines are working only sporadically and their internet access has been down, so communicating their situation is not always possible. Mike Bassous, General Secretary of the Bible Society in Lebanon, has been doing his best to keep in touch with the Syrian team.

He requests prayer for the situation of Bible work in Syria and the influx of refugees to Lebanon. “In Damascus, the main bookshop is open most days when possible. And although the resource centre is ready to host young people now, it is closed until further notice. Please continue to pray for the safety and wellbeing of our staff.”

Lebanon has now received around 50,000 Syrian refugees. The Bible Society in Lebanon is helping provide Scripture and relief to these families. Ask the Lord to keep his protection on the Bible Society staff in Aleppo, that they and their families will remain unharmed and that they will be given great opportunities to witness in this terrible time.
