Clergy couple called to East Asia

The rector of Bright, Ballee, Killough and Rathmullan, and his wife Rebekah, write below of their calling to service abroad…

“Recently Rebekah and I have felt God’s direction to return to East Asia. In the context of prayer and of wanting to know God’s will, God has seemed to be leading us, both subjectively in our hearts, and more objectively through the providential ordering of circumstances. We therefore intend, from next July, to begin work with OMF International (formerly Overseas Missionary Fellowship).

OMF believes in the mandate to ‘make disciples of all nations’ and has sought to share the Gospel with peoples in East Asia for almost 150 years.

The vision of OMF is ‘to see an indigenous biblical church movement in each people group of East Asia evangelising their own people and reaching out in mission to other peoples.’ These aims are furthered, where possible, in partnership with local Christians, through direct evangelism, through the offer of skills lacking at the local level, and through incarnational works of service in East Asian communities.

OMF workers are encouraged to identify as far as possible with the people among whom they work through an understanding of local language and culture, believing strongly in the uniqueness of Christ as Saviour and in the importance of reaching the unreached with the Gospel.

As never before there are opportunities for Christians from around the world to partner with East Asian believers as they share the message of Christ, as the church grows rapidly in response to great spiritual hunger.

Rebekah and I believe that God is asking us to be part of what he is doing through his church in that part of the world. Please pray for us as we try to discern how to be most useful to the church there and as we prepare for this change.”
