Maridi Team Blog: Rise and Shine

Pounding rain and peals of thunder started day 3. To the Sudanese the rain is a blessing and we thank God for the rain that nourishes their crops.

The youth from around the Diocese of Maridi traveled to us for the Youth Conference and numbered over 200 youth workers. Isaiah 60:1 is the theme so we taught them a song based on that piece of Scripture, ‘Rise and Shine and give God the glory!’ It was officially dubbed their theme song for the week! The teachings and worship times were spirit filled.

The rain is a blessing, but it changed the schedule for our day somewhat! Parts of our ‘scheduled’ day were delayed or cancelled altogether. We found these sayings ring true for our first days spent here: ‘Blessed are the flexible for they won’t be bent out of shape!’ and, ‘Want to make God laugh? Make plans!’ But you won’t hear any complaining from any of the team. We are all very aware of God’s abundant grace and mercy as we travel into clinics and schools, hospitals and Churches. Although our scheduled plans were changed it is obvious that God’s plans were amazing!

What was to be a healing service at a local Church was cancelled due to the afternoon downpours of rain. (Most people here travel on foot.) Long story short, we combined with the evangelistic service and provided a time of healing for the Youth Leaders and anyone else that came because they heard the music! What an amazing thing, to have the Bishops of Maridi, Down & Dromore and Albany altogether, as well as representatives from all 3 Diocese, and CMS Ireland.

We have experienced the blessings of God at work in these relationships. We have shared in their trials, their joys and their prayers. So, we thank you God for your word: ‘A threefold cord is not quickly broken.’(Ecclesiastes 4:12)

And please know that we are all truly grateful for the prayers arising on our behalf. They have blessed us immensely, thank you!
