Church goes ‘Messy’ in Gilnahirk

St Dorothea’s first ever ’Messy Church’ which was held in October, was a great success. Rather than choose a weekend slot, the team selected 3.00pm on a Friday which worked in well with the Primary School across the road.

“At the peak we had 61 children and their parents or grandparents,” said the rector, Revd Nigel Kirkpatrick. “Some had to leave after worship, but at the end we had over 100 sitting down to the meal.”

The theme was Harvest, the Bible reading was the feeding of the five thousand and the meal was fish fingers and bread (a reminder of the loaves and fishes), and chips, with ice–cream for dessert.

Their next Messy Church is planned Friday 9 November when the theme will be God’s promises and the Bible story, Noah’s Ark.  The crafts will follow the theme and Scripture as will the meal, which will be two by two – two sausages, two cubes of cheese, two scoops of mashed potato…!
