Foundations 20’s and 30’s Project ‘overwhelmed’ by first night attendance

The Dock café in Belfast was overwhelmed by the attendance of 20s and 30s on the first night of the ‘Foundations’ project on Saturday 23 February.

The organisers had thought around 80 people would attend but eventually had to arrange for extra seating when almost twice that number arrived.

Foundations is an initiative aimed at people in their 20’s and 30’s involved in the Church of Ireland. It’s for those that want to grow and share their faith together and these first nights will be encouraging the use of spiritual disciplines in the Christian walk. As well as running regular gatherings Foundations will also be encouraging the use of social media to help encourage those involved to practise disciplines and habits of Christian growth on a daily basis.

Commenting after the first night one of the organising group, Revd. Barry Ford, Chaplain at The Hub, QUB, said:

“We were very humbled by so many people showing up at our first night – and completely unprepared for it! So while we are very thankful that so many people made the effort to be there we are sorry that we ran out of chairs and space!

This was the first step in what we hope will be a long–term process where this generation helps and supports each other to grow in faith.

One of our key messages tonight was to ‘Ask where the good way is, and walk in it’ (Jeremiah 6:16) and this is something that we will be challenging each other to do over the next two months until our next meeting on 20 April.

One of the key ways we will be doing this will be through social media using Facebook, Twitter and email. This is an exciting project to be part of, but we are still learning how best to shape it and so I want to ask for peoples’ prayers as we move forward from here.”
