Dundonald Foodbank opens

This week saw the the opening of Dundonald Community Foodank. Operating under the Trussell Trust, the Foodbank is a partnership between seven local churches and community organisations, including both St Mary’s Ballybeen and St Elizabeth’s Dundonald.

The Rector of St Mary’s, Revd Mark Harvey, takes up the story.

‘Back in November, the ministers of a number of local churches met to discuss the idea of setting up a foodbank to serve Dundonald and the surrounding area. Six months later the goodness of God has been evident at every turn, from the initial administrative support of Tullycarnet Community Support Services, to the provision of wonderful premises by Castlereagh Enterprises and subsequently of every piece of furnishing, shelving and equipment needed from other businesses and individuals.

The generosity of the local community has been staggering as we have quickly exceeded Trussell’s target of 3000kg of stock before opening. Dozens of volunteers have signed up from all the churches involved and we are excited about what God will do through the work of Dundonald Foodbank.’
