Shankill Church to celebrate 150th Anniversary

8 May 2013 marks the 150th anniversary of the consecration of Shankill Parish’s current church building.

To mark the anniversary, on Saturday 4 May, the church will be open from 11.00 am–3.00 pm and everyone is warmly invited to drop in for refreshments and to view the beautiful historic church.

Mr Sammy Malcolm, a member of Shankill Parish and a local historian, will be giving guided tours and reflections on the church, and its role in shaping the history and lives of people in our town.

Over the past number of years extensive work has been carried out on the church spire and more recently on the bell tower.  ‘Before and after’ photographs of the work will be on display.

The 150th celebrations of worship and witness continue with a celebration service at 10.30 am on Sunday 5 May.  The guest speaker at this service will be former Rector Revd. Dr Maurice Elliott, now the Director of the Theological Institute in Dublin.

After the celebratory service there will be a picnic lunch, a treasure hunt, face painting & activities for the kids in the church grounds.
