Nick Page makes a welcome return to Belfast

Oxford based author, Nick Page, has made a rare trip to Belfast to speak at an event organised by The Good Book Shop. Nick who has written over 70 books for adults and children came to St Molua’s Parish Church Stormont to talk about his new book ‘Kingdom of Fools’ which examines the role of the early church following the ascension of Jesus, and examines how the early Christians were viewed as foolish by the Roman world at the time.

Around 50 people came to St Molua’s on 4th June (traditionally believed to be the birth date of St Molua) to hear Nick give a brief lecture on the early church, and there was time at the end for him to answer questions and to sign books. He also spoke of his love for bookshops, particularly those who ‘sold his own books!’

Nick, who was here with his wife Claire, was last in Northern Ireland in the late 80s when he came over with a small acting group who were involved in the first Summer Madness event in Castle Archdale. He thoroughly enjoyed his return this year to a rather unexpected sunny Belfast, and took to twitter to say ‘I am choosing to believe the weather in Belfast is always like this’

This is the second time The Good Book Shop have organised an author visit to Belfast. Last year, they brought over from Patrick Regan OBE– author of the book ‘No Ceiling to Hope’, and CEO of the London based charity XLP, to speak both in Willowfield Parish Church and ‘Boring Wells’ fresh expression church based in Mersey Street. Nick’s visit this year coincided with the bookshop’s celebration of 10 years of trade in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter.

‘Kingdom of Fools– the unlikely rise of the Early Church’ is now available to buy from The Good Book Shop along with another of Nick’s books ‘The Big Story’ for only £10
