Revd Stephen Lowry instituted as rector of Killaney and Carryduff

Bishop Harold Miller has instituted Revd Stephen Lowry as Incumbent of the Grouped Parishes of Killaney and Carryduff.

The service took place on Friday 21 June in St Ignatius, Carryduff and the preacher was The Rt Revd Justin Badi Arama, Bishop of our link diocese of Maridi.

Stephen’s wife Vera, son David and daughter Gillian joined the people of Killaney and Carryduff and parishioners from their former parishes of Dromore Cathedral and Greenisland on this special occasion. Local clergy of other denominations took the opportunity to welcome Stephen and the newly elected Deputy Lord Mayor of Lisburn also brought greetings.

Bishop Justin’s sermon was about humility and living a life that is pleasing to the Lord and he noted that Stephen had relinquished the position of Dean of the Cathedral to take up this new calling. In the final speech of the evening, Bishop Harold, however was pleased to announce that Stephen would become a Canon of St Anne’s Cathedral in place of The Ven David McClay, Archdeacon of Down.

The new rector said of his incumbency, “We are thrilled with the challenge and opportunity which our new parishes present to us. Under God I trust that he will build his church to his glory using the firm foundations in Christ which my predecessors have planted.”
