Bells of Killnchy ring out for Royal baby

The bells of Killinchy Parish Church rang out in jubilation as news of the Royal baby emerged from Buckingham Palace. The Rector, Revd Stanley Gamble, was straight up to the church to ring the bells and say the ‘Te Deum’ – the traditional canticle of praise and thanksgiving.

Local resident, Jane McCabe was in the garden when the bells started ringing. She said, “When I heard the bells, I instantly knew that the Duchess of Cambridge must have had her baby!” Lorraine Foreman also heard the bells – “what a lovely idea!”, she said.

Bell ringing usually signals the time of Sunday services, but on occasions such as the birth of a new heir to the throne, it signals joy and jubilation.

Revd Gamble said, “It was such an exciting evening for the whole nation. I am glad that we played our part in the celebrations. On behalf of the parish, I offer our warm congratulations to William and Kate, and pray God’s hand of blessing and protection on the new prince and future king.”
