Drumbeg Rector sits out for charity

Drumbeg Parish and Community pulled out all the stops for charity from Sunday 15 December when Revd Willie Nixon, joined by parishioners and members of the local community, began a 24 hour sit–out at the church gates.

The sit–out at the end of the Malone Road raised £1509 for the Simon Community in Belfast, and collected three trailer loads of non–perishable food stuffs for the Storehouse food–bank project.

Quoted in the Belfast News Letter, Revd Willie said, “We had no sleep at all. It obviously was very cold and wet and we were drowned rats in the morning. But it was worth it.”

This was the culmination of a weekend of charity fundraising by the parish and community. Other charities which benefited from the weekend’s activities were: Save the Children, the Salvation Army Toy Appeal and the Habitat for Humanity Drumbeg Parish and Community Ethopia 2014 Project.
