Dean of Belfast delighted with Black Santa Appeal

Although you can still give, the Dean of Belfast, the Very Revd John Mann, is delighted with the ‘wonderful response’, to the 2013 Black Santa Appeal.

Dean Mann said the annual collection, taken during the sitout on the steps of St Anne’s Cathedral should not be far short of £200,000 when all funds are counted.

This year, people were also given the opportunity to respond separately to the devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. £23,600 was given to this collection, most of which has already been sent, either through Oxfam or the Church of Ireland Bishops’ Appeal.

The figures show that to date the sit out has collected approximately £147,000 with another £14,000 likely to be added through Gift Aid.

The fund remains open for postal Donations and it is hoped that as in previous years it will continue to rise through January until the “Distribution to Charities“ on 2 February. P
