Maridi Team postpone their trip

It’s with heavy hearts that a team from Down and Dromore has postponed their trip to Maridi Diocese in South Sudan. In the light of recent unrest in Juba, Bishop Justin Badi has advised them not to travel.

The team, which was to leave Belfast on Saturday 1 February, was made up of three members of Dromore Cathedral – Jane Corbett, Nina Coffey and Charles Sherwin, plus three members from Carryduff Parish – Canon Stephen Lowry, Elizabeth Frew and Keith Shaw. Carryduff has newly come on board as a supporter of our link diocese.

Although just being present with our brothers and sisters in South Sudan is a vital part of any trip, the team were planning to put their skills to good use.

Stephen was going to do some clergy teaching, Charlie is a mechanic and general handyman and Keith was planning to work with both the schools and youth at the Cathedral.

Liz is a retired Pharmacist and was going to try to help with organisation in the Bethsaida Clinic whilst Jane and Nina had planned some project work with Mother’s Union and the girls in the schools.

They (and we) are hopeful that the situation in the country will quickly improve and that the trip can be rearranged.

Pray for South Sudan. Read Bishop Justin’s latest email here.
