Protests and prayers in Ukraine

The Bible Society continues to bring Ukraine to our attention. With the situation still very unstable, with many anxious about the possibility of war, the Bible Society and the churches are continuing to work together to bring the Bible’s message of peace, encouragement and consolation to Ukrainians.

Amidst all these circumstances, Ukrainian churches and the Ukrainian Bible Society (UkBS) feel their ultimate responsibility is to actively work with all those involved in and affected by the recent events and to try to bring the message of peace, encouragement and consolation from God. Inter–confessional prayer meetings are taking place all over Ukraine, especially in Crimea, Southern and Eastern Ukraine.

“We believe that only God can bring peace and reconciliation so, with clergy and church volunteers, we went out onto the streets, getting close to government forces and protesters. Local churches set up prayer tents all over Maidan (the city’s main square where most of the protests took place), and together we provided food and drink, helped the injured to get medical help, and distributed more than 8,000 Scriptures. People responded so warmly that we completely ran out of free Scriptures to distribute”, said Rostyslav Stasyuk of UkBS.

They are hoping to be able to urgently produce more Scriptures in both Ukrainian and Russian. Continue to pray for the staff and volunteers of UkBS, led by Oleksandr Babiychuk.

Let’s join in praying for peace in Ukraine and opportunities amidst this crisis time for Christians to show God’s love and share the hope and peace of His Word. “We pray that with God’s help, Ukraine will emerge renewed and re–devoted to Him,” says Rostyslav.
