South Sudan is still unpredictable says Bible Society

Dr Edward Kajivora, Executive Secretary of the Bible Society in South Sudan (BS–SS) reports that the situation is still unpredictable.

“Peace talks seem to bear no tangible fruit… famine is looming …food prices are going up almost daily… Guns are everywhere… Although the government denies it, the war is very tribal… Dinka versus Nuer.

“The recruitment of young men and children for military training is taking place on both sides, with many willing recruits as there are certainly no employment opportunities.

“In the midst of all this trouble, we at the Bible Society continue to work to serve the people. As well as providing Scriptures for churches and individuals, we are running trauma healing workshops.”

For two weeks over Easter, Project Coordinator Revd Klero worked with survivors who suffered at the hands of the notorious Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). Revd Klero said it was a joy to see the reaction of these suffering people to the words of love and healing that the Scriptures bring.

“Even the children knelt on the muddy ground to ask God for his peace,” he said. Please join with Edward, Revd Klero and all of BS–SS as they pray for peace.

“Whatever happens and whatever the future holds, our hope is in the Lord alone, and we at the Bible Society, like many South Sudanese people, are praying ceaselessly for peace. We are all tired of the long war and pray that the Lord will listen and answer our prayers.”
