Vacancy for a Youth Coordinator, Hillsborough Parish

Hillsborough Parish Church seeks a Youth Coordinator

Aim: To help organize and deliver a youth ministry which enables young people to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and become more like Him.

Hours: 15 hours per week.

Main duties

To help plan and deliver a weekly programme of activities at the Youth Club on Friday evenings which engages with church–going and unchurched young people. To help plan and deliver a weekly programme of activities and Bible teaching on Sunday evenings at the Youth Fellowship which strengthens  the young people in their faith in Christ and their sense of discipleship. To mentor individual male teens, as agreed with Rector, during the school week so that they may grow further in the faith, in leadership and service. To organize and promote the monthly youth friendly Sunday Service in a way which involves the Youth Fellowship and is welcoming to unchurched young people. To organize and promote from time to time, a special Church Service or concert which is primarily evangelistic in nature. To undertake other duties which may arise from time to time and which are reasonable and related to the post.

Other Information

The person appointed will serve a probationary period of 3 months and subject to a successful review of performance, will be confirmed in post for a 3 year period. The post is for 15 hours per week with a hourly rate of £7.96 and the post–holder will be entitled to public holidays and annual holidays on a pro rata basis. Reporting directly to the Rector in relation to overall matters and policy, the post–holder will also work in co–operation with the Youth Club Management Committee in relation to any matters involving the Youth Club. The post–holder will meet with the Rector on a regular basis for mentoring and personal development in both his own faith and in leadership skills.

Essential Criteria

The person appointed must be a committed Christian in sympathy with the Biblical ethos of Hillsborough Parish and whose personal life reflects the Lordship of Christ. The person appointed must have excellent inter–personal skills which enable him to build meaningful relationships with young people from a range of backgrounds. The person appointed must be able to work in a team and co–operate with volunteers drawn from a range of ages. The person appointed must have Bible teaching ability and a passion for communicating the Christian faith in a manner which is faithful and also relevant to young people. The person appointed will have a proven track record of service in their local church OR with a youth organization. The person appointed will have a pastoral concern for the young people and want to help them mature as Christians and as young adults. The person appointed will have personal initiative, organizational skills, be reliable and able to cope with set–backs.

  • Those applicants who are short–listed will be interviewed by a three–person panel in July and it is hoped the person appointed can begin duties in August/September.

  • The person appointed will be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure check by Access NI before beginning duties with young people.
