Bible takes centre stage at exhibition in European Parliament

The recent opening of an exhibition about the Bible in the European Parliament building has reminded politicians of the key role the Bible has played in shaping history and culture throughout the world.

“The Bible has influenced the cultures here in Europe, but it has also impacted the entire world. This exhibition by the French Bible Society (FBS) reminds us of its important place in our culture,” said Peter Van Dalen, MEP from the Netherlands.

“The Bible still has something to tell us today,” he continued. “The prophet Micah wrote this: ‘The Lord has told us what is good. What he requires of us is this: to do what is just, to show constant love, and to live in humble fellowship with our God.’ (Micah 6:8). That is a truly universal human perspective.”

The Bible, Heritage of Humanity, was created by FBS and first inaugurated in the UNESCO headquarters in Paris in 2010. Since then, replicas in French and English have been touring France and Belgium.  “The Bible is available everywhere in Europe now but that hasn’t always been the case,” commented Finnish MEP Sari Essayah, during the inauguration. “Not long ago, Bibles were secretly smuggled into Eastern European countries.” We need to remember that the Lord has been making pathways clear and pray, in faith, that He will continue to do so.

Thanks to the exhibition, the Bible has been a central attraction since its instalment in April.

Pray that this will have a lasting impact on MEPs who have been drawn back to their Biblical roots. May God draw people in leadership to Him and influence their thinking and hearts. Give thanks that the Word has been sown on this stage, pray that the Lord will make it spread.
