Wednesday at the Bible Week and a call to evangelism

Last night we welcomed Craig Cooney back to the Bible Week as our speaker. Craig began his ministry in Shankill Parish, Lurgan and now leads St Catherine’s (formerly CORE), a church in inner–city Dublin.

Following on from the command to love God with everything, Craig explored how we should love others as we love ourselves. St Katherine’s has experienced considerable growth in recent years but Craig shared that they had also been the most testing of his ministry. Teaching from the story of the healing of the paralytic in Mark 2: 1–12, he challenged us to have a ‘whatever it takes’ attitude in sharing Jesus with others both personally and in our churches.

It was appropriate that this was also the night we met 10 of the 12 Diocesan Evangelists currently in training. All of them are finding the two year course both enjoyable and challenging and this autumn we will be holding interviews for a new intake of students for a new harvest. We’re looking for people with a heart to reach the lost, a commitment to work hard and a willingness to learn how to witness more effectively.

Kids Club

Whilst the adults have been enjoying worship and the ministry of the word, up to 30 children have been at our first ever Bible Week Kids’ Club in Willowfield halls. Julie Currie and her team of volunteers have been running DDYC’s own ‘LETSGO’ based around the theme of building our lives on Christ Jesus. A lot of local children have come along and one of those gave her life to Christ on Tuesday evening.

Church planting

Last night we heard from Susan Macfarland, leader of Braniel Community Church which was planted in December 2013. The church has been making connections with the local residents and especially unchurched young people. Susan shared how their youth club had grown from 2 to 20 and how they had taken a group of 9 to Summer Madness.

There will be a particular focus for giving by standing order to the Down and Dromore Church Planting Fund tonight (Thursday) so please prayerfully consider supporting this initiative.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back for our final evening.
