Fresh plans for a Maridi visit

It was with heavy hearts that in January a team from Down and Dromore postponed their trip to Maridi Diocese, our link diocese in South Sudan.

The news from Maridi is that things remain quiet and they are expecting to have a good harvest. They were fortunate to have calm for planting their crops and the rains were good.

Jane Corbett and Nina Coffey (Dromore Cathedral), Liz Fleming (Carryduff) and Maureen Clarke (St John’s, Kilwarlin) are hoping to visit the diocese in December. They will spend about nine days on the ground in Maridi and they hope this will be a real encouragement to the people.

“We will be there while Bishop Justin will be doing Confirmations, “ says Jane “and it will be a great opportunity to bring greetings from our Diocese and Parish to the many people who will gather. Some will walk many miles to attend.

“We plan to deliver a project with the girls in the schools and the MU which we hope will enable many girls to attend school on a more regular basis. Please hold us in prayer as we prepare and apply for our visas.”

The Peace talks have again failed to reach agreement in Addis Abba, but we will continue to pray for sense to prevail and for the different tribes to set aside their own pride for the good of the whole country.
