’Take care on the roads’ urge Church Leaders and PSNI

The PSNI and Church Leaders have joined together to urge drivers and pedestrians to take care on our roads.

Following a recent meeting Assistant Chief Constable Stephen Martin said:

“So far this year 62 people have lost their lives as a result of a road traffic collision in Northern Ireland. It is vitally important that as we move into the autumn and winter months we reinforce the need for everyone to use the roads safely and responsibly.

“I welcome the support of the churches in Northern Ireland in helping us spread the word across all congregations about the importance of road safety. Our message is simple; slow down, wear your seatbelt, pay attention to what is happening around you and never drive after drinking or taking drugs.”

Speaking on behalf of the church leaders, President of the Methodist Church in Ireland, the Reverend Peter Murray said:

“The loss of a life in any circumstance is a tragedy but sadly most, if not all road deaths, could be prevented if people took more care.  Making sure the roads are safe for everyone is a responsibility we all must bear and we will remind our congregations to take personal responsibility for their own behaviour and ask them to pray for those who have lost loved ones.”
