Canon Dr Christina Baxter welcomed back to annual Quiet Day

Serving and retired clergy, church plant leaders and Church Army officers serving in the diocese gathered for the annual Down and Dromore Quiet Day on Shrove Tuesday, 17 February.

We welcomed back to the diocese, Canon Dr Christina Baxter, CBE, who spoke on the theme ‘Lord, let your glory fall’ (2 Chronicles 5 & 7). Christina will be familiar to many as the speaker at our Bible Week in 2010. She has served both as Lay Chairman of the Church of England’s General Synod and as a member of the Archbishop’s Council. She recently retired as principal of St John’s College, Nottingham.

Christina also officially launched ‘Week of All Weeks’, Bishop Harold’s Holy Week and Easter Worship Guide and companion Prayer Book.

She praised the books for their clarity and ease of use and agreed with Bishop Miller that Holy Week was indeed a very important time in the Christian year.

”I intend to share this resource with some Church of England clergy, said Dr Baxter, “and ”I do hope that it will be a blessing to this diocese and the Church of Ireland.”

The Quiet Day was once again generously and expertly hosted by Revd Canon Stephen Lowry and his team at Ignatius Carryduff who served us delicious refreshments and lunch.
