New Holy Week and Easter Worship resources launched on Shrove Tuesday

Two new worship resources for Holy Week and Easter Day were launched at the Down and Dromore Quiet Day in St Ignatius, Carryduff, on Shrove Tuesday, 17 February.

Bishop Harold Miller has written a worship guide called Week of All Weeks and compiled a prayer book of the same name to be read and used alongside it.

The publications were launched by the Quiet Day leader, Canon Dr Christina Baxter, CBE. Dr Baxter has served both as Lay Chairman of the Church of England’s General Synod and as a member of the Archbishop’s Council. She recently retired as principal of St John’s College, Nottingham.

Dr Baxter praised the books for their clarity and ease of use and agreed with Bishop Miller that Holy Week was indeed a very important time in the Christian year.

”I intend to share this resource with some Church of England clergy, said Dr Baxter, “and ”I do hope that it will be a blessing to this diocese and the Church of Ireland.”

Week of All Weeks has been some years in gestation and has had the support and interest of the Church of Ireland Liturgical Advisory Committee and Church of Ireland Publishing. The Literature Committee has given a grant to aid publication.

Bishop Harold wrote Week of all Weeks to enable worship leaders and groups to think through how their celebration of Holy Week and Easter Day might most powerfully and effectively tell the story of the passion and resurrection.

He said: “Celebrated well and thoughtfully, this week can lead the people of God into the deep joy and privilege of their salvation. I hope that the guide and the accompanying prayer book will be widely used.”

Both books are available from The Book Well (www.thebookwell.co.uk) and there will be discounts available for bulk orders.
