The Kerygma Choir is in wonderful voice

There’s a treat in store when ‘Kerygma, The Good News Choir’ makes its debut at Down Cathedral on St Patrick’s Day.

The 70–strong choir with singers from all Christian backgrounds, was rehearsing in the cathedral on Sunday evening and their voices soared in the wonderful acoustic of the building.

We will enjoy 2 pieces on 17 March – the wonderfully uplifting ’How Can I Keep From Singing/Praise Him’ and a stirring arrangement of ‘When the Saints’. Chief accompanyist is Down Cathedral organist, Michael McCracken.

The atmosphere at rehearsal was one of joy and excitement. Revd Adrian Dorrian said:

“Singing in such a large choir, and meeting so many new people has been wonderful! Lorna has brought a real sense of joy to our times together, and although she’s worked us really hard it’s been great. I’m really looking forward to getting the chance to sing in the cathedral. This is a brilliant initiative in the diocese.”

Lorna Palmer formed the choir for the Year of Mission at Bishop Harold’s invitation and the name Kerygma (from the Greek kérugma) is used in the New Testament for preaching or proclamation. The choir will proclaim the gospel through a variety of musical styles and genres during 2015 with both a summer and Christmas concert planned.
