Mission to Seafarers will be at heart of Tall Ships Festival

The Tall Ships return to Belfast from 2–5 July and The Mission to Seafarers have been nominated as one of the five maritime charities to benefit from this high profile event.

Mission to Seafarers will team up with R.N.L.I, Sea Cadets, Sailability and Ocean Youth Trust to run two marquees at either side of the river (The Arc, Titanic Quarter and Clarendon Docks). The public will be able to learn about the charities and donate to their work.

Meanwhile, the “Flying Angel” positioned close to the ships on the Antrim side of the river and at the main entrance gate, will be open for open for “Tea at Sea” throughout the festival from 10.00 am – 5.00 pm. This is another opportunity for people to find out more about the operation, visit the attractive centre and enjoy home–made refreshments throughout the day. This “Tea at Sea” theme was a great success when it was pioneered it last October. Why not visit as a church group or a family outing?

“Seafarers tend to be a forgotten community – ‘out of sight, out of mind’ – yet they are so vital to our well–being and comfort, and the global economy,” says Belfast Chaplain, Revd Colin Hall–Thompson (pictured below second from left).

“The Mission to Seafarers’ is the Church’s ministry to seafarers and their families around the world whether at home or thousands of miles away. The Church of God does not forget seafarers, and so we look forward to our ministry amongst the crews of the Tall Ships just as we do amongst merchant or any other kind of seafarers.”
