Meet deacon intern Colin Taylor

The last three years have been an interesting journey on the way to ordination. As I reflect on the time it is amazing how God has been with my wife Eleanor and myself along the way as I have sought to test this call after serving as a Lay Evangelist for some 37 years. Three years ago we were encouraged to trust that God had our lives in His hands. The verses given to us for our encouragement were from Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Opportunities have opened up across the Diocese of Down and Dromore to allow me to minister in a variety of situations and in so doing to confirm again and again what I believed was being said to me regarding ordination and the church has confirmed that call. That call has been further tested as Eleanor and I moved to minister to the people of the parishes of Dromara and Garvaghy and we have literally had the opportunity to use the gifts and experiences of the past to minister in this beautiful part of Co Down.

There is still so much more to learn and I am looking forward to that, more experiences to work through and people to engage with, so much possibility on this journey.

Dr. Billy Graham in his book “Nearing Home” talks of finishing well in life and ministry. I am praying that as I am ordained deacon, undertake study and ministry that using all that God has given me through the years I may be able to develop in ministry and over time finish well for Christ.
