Meet deacon intern Scott McDonald

My name is Scott McDonald. I am married to Pauline and we have three teenage children; Anna, Ceri and Daniel. We have a busy home life with Pauline working as a manager in Health and Social Care. Anna is about to commence Primary Education teacher training at Stranmillis College. Ceri recently sat AS level exams and Daniel is about to start year 11 in his school life.

I was a teenager when I became a Christian. Over many years I found God to be faithful to me in the ups and downs of life and I am still following Jesus today.

I was born in Cheltenham and, so I am told, have a West Country accent, unlike my wife and our children, who are all natives of Belfast. I came to Northern Ireland in the early 1990`s to serve as a Church Army evangelist in the Parish of Glencairn in the Greater Shankill area of West Belfast. Now as an ordinand, after completing two years of training at the Church of Ireland Theological Institute, I am preparing to move with my family to the parish of Willowfield in East Belfast as Deacon Intern. It is with total dependence upon God and thankfulness to all those within the Church of Ireland who have recognised and affirmed His calling upon my life that I offered myself to Him and His Church for ordination by Bishop Harold on 6th September 2015. I am looking forward to serving, working with and learning from the leaders and people of God`s family at Willowfield.

I believe that we are living in a time of great opportunity to proclaim and demonstrate the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord as we seek to understand what it means to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness wherever He has placed us.

One very important fact that I have not mentioned yet is that I am a West Ham United supporter and have been since the days of Noah. This has taught me to have great patience and a good sense of humour.
