Revd Michael Parker Elected a Canon of Belfast Cathedral

Rector of Carnalea, Revd Michael Parker, has been elected a canon of St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast, by the Chapter. He will be installed on Sunday November 15 at 3.30 pm.

Michael was ordained deacon in 1996 and following a 4 year curacy in St Mark’s Dundela, became incumbent of St Gall’s where he has ministered for 15 years. He is also a member of the Board of Christian Aid Ireland.

Speaking of his election Michael said: “It is a lovely thing to be elected to serve as a Chapter Canon of Belfast Cathedral. I look forward to sharing in the life of the Cathedral community and getting to know more of it’s history and it’s people. I think sharing with the Dean in doing the Black Santa Christmas sit–out this winter will be special. As a member of the Board of Christian Aid Ireland I know just how much of a difference money raised by the Dean’s Sit–Out makes for some of the most needy in our own community and around the world. It is a fabulous effort each year that supports such a range of super charities. What a privilege to be a part of that effort!”

Cathedral Chancellor and Archdeacon of Down, the Ven David McClay said: “I’d like to offer my congratulations to Michael Parker on his becoming a canon of St Anne’s Cathedral. Michael has worked very hard in Carnalea Parish for the past 15 years. Please pray for him and the people in Carnalea that God will encourage and strengthen him in all the work to which he has been called. May God bless him and his family in the days ahead.”

The Cathedral Chapter elects 2 canons and Michael will join Revd Canon Brother David Jardine of Divine Healing Ministries.
