Want to see a baking bishop?

If people do a Big Bake for Tearfund, they will be invited to a special reception where they can watch Martha Collison, former contestant on the Great British Bake Off, and Bishop Harold, bake.

During our special reception* Martha will share some stories from her Cambodia trip and demonstrate some of her baking skills. Bishop Harold has also visited Cambodia with Tearfund and, as to his baking skills, well we’ll just have to wait and see if he has any!

In Cambodia Martha helped run bakery workshops in a training project for girls who are vulnerable to traffickers. New skills will help them find work and Martha was impressed: “Tearfund’s No Child Taken project is bringing hope and it shows God can heal broken lives.”

How do I take part?

Hosting a Big Bake can be as simple as whipping up a batch of buns to sell to friends, or something more challenging like a bake–off in your workplace, school, club or church.

Beth Cheney, from Rathfriland, baked buns for her friends and raised a terrific £450 which will support our No Child Taken campaign to protect 50,000 vulnerable children.

More about Martha

At just 17 years old, Martha Collison was the youngest contestant on the BBC’s Great British Bake Off. Her life has changed a lot in the last year, now aged 18 Martha writes a column for Waitrose Weekend and has recently signed a book deal to write her first recipe book. As well as being a great baker, she’s also a committed Christian who recently visited Tearfund projects in Thailand and Cambodia which are bringing help and hope to people caught up in the horror of trafficking. ‘It was eye–opening,’ she said, ‘there are thousands of children trafficked across the border between Cambodia and Thailand every year.’
