Feeding the 5000 at St Christopher’s – join us in highlighting food poverty

Last week, The Larder food bank in St Christopher’s, Mersey Street, Inner East Belfast, gave out emergency food to its 5000th person in under three years.

The folk at The Larder invite you to join them in highlighting food poverty by gathering signatures. Boring Wells leader, Revd Adrian McCartney, says:

“The Larder in St Christopher’s exists to both serve people in need and as a reminder that some things in our society are not working as well as they could.

“We would love 5000 people to sign the statement below as part of our preparations for Feeding the 5000 Day at the Larder food bank on 1 December. The list of signatures will be addressed to the people who could help to make the changes needed to improve this situation:

”’At the original feeding of the 5000 Jesus said to his followers, ‘You give them something to eat.’  We would like to apologise to all those who have less than they need because we want to keep more than we need. Would you join with us in bringing about the changes that will make this apology more than words?’

“We will be presenting these signatures to representatives of Stormont and Westminster. This is not party–political.  We just want to suggest that attitudes like compassion and generosity are valid considerations when making economic and welfare policy.”
