Down and Dromore MU’s ‘Away from it All’ scheme supports families under stress

Mother’s Union (MU) in Down and Dromore operates a scheme for “Away From It All”(AFIA) holidays to help people who wouldn’t otherwise be able to have a break.

The scheme operates in the UK where, on average, MU helps 2,500 people to have a holiday each year.

A grandmother who benefited wrote:

“I never thought that Mothers’ Union would consider me but they gave me the chance to see my first grandchild and that meant so much to me. It has changed my view on what I thought was a group of ‘God–Ladies’ to a group of Ladies that show God cares for people like me.“

Who can apply?

The scheme is open to anyone who is experiencing stress in their family life.

Where do I start?

We will need some basic information, such as when you last had a break and the reason why you would like one now. There will be a simple application form to complete.

The application form will ask you to include the name of a Rector within The Church of Ireland who will support your request.

Mothers’ Union will then ask him/her to act as your referee and to complete an additional form.

About the Break

Mothers’ Union will normally help with part of the cost. Our funds are limited but we will always do as much as we can.

The break may take different forms:–perhaps a day or night out, a weekend away or even a week’s holiday. Where possible we will work with you and help plan whatever you feel is most suitable for your family.

Please contact your local Church of Ireland Rector who will be able to get in touch with Down and Dromore Mothers’ Union AFIA co–ordinator to enquire about the scheme.

We will endeavor to answer all queries as soon as possible.
