Men’s health advice, the Euros and a Turkish shave

Did you realise that 13–19 June was Men’s Health Week? Did you also know that, according to the Men’s Health Forum, one man in five dies before the age of 65?

As we are aware, there are many lifestyle changes men (and women) can make to improve their health and longevity and with that in mind, St Clements Parish in Templemore Avenue invited locals to a Men’s Health Evening on 16 June.

Over 40 men came along for blood pressure and cholesterol tests, allergy tests, and some ‘pampering’ in the form of some tasty, healthy food, haircuts, massages and Turkish shaves.

The men were also able to get advice and information from a variety of organisations represented including Addiction NI, Survivors of Suicide, CAP, Cancer Awareness and the East Belfast Independent Advice Centre.

First item on the agenda, however was the Northern Ireland–Ukraine football match which put everybody’s blood pressure up but probably released a lot of endorphins!

For many of the men it was their first time in St Clements and everyone went away, not only with an invitation to the Father’s Day Service but a copy of the Christian Magazine Sorted and other literature.
