Raise the roof! Over 200,000 pounds in grants secured

The second round of historic UK places of worship to benefit from the Listed Places of Worship: Roof Repair Fund was announced earlier this month. Hundreds of places of worship across all four corners of the UK will now be made weather–tight, safe and open for use.

Among them are four of our parishes whose successful applications have secured a total of £217 ,800 in grants.

  • Mount Merrion: £73,500

  • Dromore Cathedral: £30,800

  • Christ Church, Kilkeel: £82,500

  • St Mark’s, Newtownards: £31,000

A total of 401 places of UK worship received between £10,000 to £100,000 to meet the costs of urgent repairs to roofs and rainwater disposal systems. Money is also being provided for structural investigations; specialist reports and bat surveys.

The Fund is administered by the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) on behalf of the Department for Culture Media and Sport (DCMS).
