Meet Revd Lucy Burden

Lucy Burden has been ordained deacon to serve an internship in Mount Merrion Parish, Belfast:

My name is Lucy, I’m 28 years old and I’m from Lisburn. My home parish is Lisburn Cathedral and from September I will be serving as Deacon intern in the parish of Mount Merrion, East Belfast.

At the age of 19 I became a Christian in Germany whilst working with a British forces family. God worked so powerfully through this family and my journey of faith began. During my time in Germany I was baptised in an Anglican Army Church. This was an incredibly meaningful and an important time for me.

After leaving Germany I spent 4 months in Nepal as a volunteer. Throughout this time, I had an amazing opportunity to explore ministry in another culture. On my return to Northern Ireland, I studied a theology degree at Belfast Bible College and my sense of vocation was strengthened.

I have now completed two out of three years of full time training and whilst it has been demanding, I have been reminded time and again of God’s goodness and faithfulness. Reaching this point in my ministry is very exciting and I look forward to seeing how God uses me in this next stage of my life, as I serve in the role of Deacon.

In other news, I am super competitive and love the simple things in life, like playing the guitar, eating good food, listening to music and spending time with friends.  I am a Manchester United fan but don’t hold that against me.
