New book sparks debate on the role of political leaders

It has been a momentous couple of weeks, with no shortage of stories about the role of Christianity in politics.

Right on cue, Theos’ new book The Mighty and the Almighty: How Political Leaders Do God has arrived.

The book was published by Biteback Publishers just days before Theresa May spoke about growing up in a vicarage and then called a General Election.

The Mighty and the Almighty looks at the faith of 24 Presidents and Prime Ministers, from Thatcher and Reagan, through Blair and Obama, to May and Trump, and asks whether, and how, their professed faith shapes their politics.

As Putin flexes his Orthodox muscles, Trump discovers a heretofore well–hidden piety, Merkel faces the challenge of re–election, May talks about the values of the vicarage – and, in a different register, Tim Farron faces questions about politics and sin – The Mighty and the Almighty might just be the strong and stable book you need to help you navigate through this chaotic new world and the troubled times in which we are living.

Remarkably, it nas featured widely in the media since it was released. It sparked a debate on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, it was discussed on BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio Wales, and it has been reported in the The GuardianDaily Mailthe iThe Daily TelegraphThe EconomistFinancial TimesChristian Today, and New Statesman. More recently, it has been the topic of the The Spectator’s podcast.

This is obviously the book of the moment, so why not buy your copy online?

Or better still, go out and buy it from a real flesh–and–blood bookshop while they still exist.
