Passing on the faith to our children

An inter–denominational meeting to explore how parents can be supported and equipped to share their faith with their children will be held at Orangefield Presbyterian Church, Belfast on Thursday, May 25 (10.30am to 12.30pm).

There are no guarantees with regard to the passing on of faith, though research indicates that only 50% of the children of Christian parents grow up to own an adult faith themselves.

Care for the Family has conducted further research recently and as this is an issue which has massive implications for the Church in the years ahead, it is keen to share these findings with Christian parents.

With parents able to spend more than 30 hours a week with their child compared to the Church’s one hour on a Sunday, they exert the biggest influence on their children. But many admit do not knowing where to start with nurturing their children’s faith.

In addition to Care for the Family, the Bible Reading Fellowship and New Wine also are working to help support and equip parents and churches, with their prayer being that many more children will ‘keep the faith’.

The May 25 event at Orangefield will provide opportunities for discussion and the exchange of thoughts and ideas.

Andy Frost, Director of Share Jesus International, will help participants look at why this matters and what Christians can do to work together. And Peter Lynas, Director of Evangelical Alliance Northern Ireland, will present his thoughts on why this conversation is so important.

A light working lunch will be provided.
