Ho–ho–ho – Glen Community Church getting ready for Christmas

Okay, maybe it’s a little bit odd to be sitting in the warmth of June organising a major event for December!

But plans for Glen Community Church’s Christmas Tree Festival in Newtownards are at an advanced stage.

This Christmas Tree Festival is part of the bi–centenary celebrations of St Mark’s, Newtownards, the Glen’s ‘sending’ church.

The event will support the sustainability of St Mark’s church family in the Glen, as well as being a blessing to the school community.

From Friday, December 8 through to Sunday, December 10, the festival will be staged in Londonderry Primary School, Glenbrook Road, Newtownards where the Church Plant meets for worship and some of its mid–week outreach.

It will run on Friday (8pm–10pm), Saturday (10am–10pm) and Sunday (2pm–6pm).

The larger spaces within the school will be transformed into a Dickensian backdrop to complement the many bespoke Christmas trees designed by members of the church family, pupils from the school, the local community and local businesses.

The school orchard will be specially illuminated, bringing to life a veritable winter wonderland, complete with Santa’s Grotto.

On the Saturday, from 10am–4pm, there will be an outdoor Christmas Market, where many crafters and sellers will gather to offer a unique blend of seasonal gifts, with the marquee accommodating individual stalls and attractions.

The GCC team will also be serving hot food and refreshments throughout the weekend. Group bookings for morning tea (Sat 10–12), lunch (Sat 12–2pm), afternoon tea (Sat and Sun 2–5pm) or a Christmas supper (Sat 6–8pm) can be made by contacting Gemma on 07512828498.

Meanwhile anyone interested in applying for a stall at the Christmas Market should get in touch with Lisa on 075 3935 7364.

And if any business is interested in sponsoring a bespoke Christmas tree – or supporting the church family in any way – please give Debbie or Stephen a call on 077 8346 6095 or 079 3323 6544 respectively.
