Prominent Anglican will speak on Reformation texts

The Most Revd Greg Venables, Bishop of Argentina and Primate of South America, is the speaker at our Bible Week in Shankill Church, Lurgan, from 29 August–1 September.

In this 500th anniversary year of the Reformation, Bishop Greg will explore some of the passages in Romans which were key for the Reformers under the title Accept No Imitations.

The bishop is much in demand as a Bible teacher and is a leading theological conservative in global Anglicanism. He and his wife Sylvia have been missionaries in South America for almost 40 years.

Born and raised in England, Greg first went to Latin America in 1978 with the South America Missionary Society (SAMS) and was ordained in 1984. His first post was as chaplain of a church in Paraguay and head teacher of St Andrew’s College, Asuncion. In 1993, he was made Bishop of Peru and Bolivia, before moving to Argentina in 2000; becoming Primate for the first time the following year, when the Province was known as the Southern Cone. He was re–elected in 2016.

We’re delighted that Bishop Greg is also leading our first ordination retreat this weekend and will preach at the service in Down Cathedral on Sunday 27 August at 4.00 pm.

Bible Week begins from 7.45 pm each evening and all are welcome. Find out more here.
