Wrestling with Romans

N.T. Wright describes Paul’s Letter to the Romans as ”a work of massive substance, presenting a formidable intellectual challenge while offering a breathtaking theological and spiritual vision.”

Eugene Peterson calls it “a piece of exuberant and passionate thinking” and “the premier document of Christian theology”.

Matthew Henry speaks of the “superlative excellency of the epistle, it being one of the longest and fullest of all”.

And so in this 500th Anniversary year of the Reformation it’s with great excitement and expectation that we approach Bible Week when Bishop Greg Venables (above) will teach on Romans 5–8:

  • Tuesday 29 August – Secure (Romans 5)

  • Wednesday 30 August – Renewed (Romans 6)

  • Thursday 31 August – Legal (Romans 7)

  • Friday 1 September – Final (Romans 8)

Please plan to come and expect God to speak to us in life–changing ways as we worship, listen and pray.

As Greg said in his message to us:

We live at a very difficult time in the history of the world and sadly, many Christians are facing uncertainty and insecurity.

Jesus said, ‘You’ll know the truth and the truth will make you free,’ and so we’re going to be taking time when we’re together, to look at the truth that God has revealed in his word…

And we’re praying that knowing the truth, we’ll be set free – not just to live lives free from uncertainty and anxiety, but to live lives as his witnesses in this world which so needs to hear the gospel of salvation in our Lord Jesus Christ.
