Corpus Christi College Choir singing evensong at Belfast Cathedral

The Choir of Corpus Christi College, Oxford, directed by Senior Organ Scholar Matthew Murphy, will sing Choral Evensong in Belfast Cathedral at 5.30 pm today, Friday 6 July.

The will be singing:

  • Noble in B minor

  • Jesu the very thought of thee – Bairstow

  • Radcliffe responses

  • Psalm 32

Corpus Christi College was established in 1517 and there has been singing, organ–playing and music–making in the college chapel since establishment just over 500 years ago.

Today, the choir, which is non–auditioning and student–run, plays a vital role in continuing this tradition. Its main weekly engagement is to sing Evensong in the chapel on Sunday evenings. It also performs at various significant events in the college and church calendar, including carol services, Ascension Day, Remembrance Sunday and Corpus Christi Day.

As well as its essential role in the life of the college chapel, the choir has recorded three CDs, most recently Carols from Corpus: 500 Years of Christmas Music. Past choir tours have included Japan, Canada, Bordeaux and, in the summer of 2016, Rome, where the choir sang in the papal basilicas, including St. Peter’s.

This year’s tour of Ireland includes performances in Dublin, Belfast, Armagh and Enniskillen.

Please note the Choir will be in Enniskillen on Saturday July 7 and not Belfast Cathedral as was previously advertised.
