Dundela Flower Festival will celebrate C.S. Lewis and faith

It is 140 years since the consecration of St Mark’s Church, Dundela and the parish will celebrate with a Flower Festival.

The anniversary event at will celebrate how seeds of faith are being nurtured and produce fruit leading to a harvest and eternal life. Each floral arrangement on display in the church will have a theme, and each theme will be accompanied with a quotation from C. S. Lewis, a biblical reference and a prayer.

The themes for the floral arrangements are inspired by the textile wall hanging specially made by St Mark’s Stitching Group which is on display in the entrance porch. It is our hope that the floral art together with its words of wisdom will take you on a journey of faith, a pilgrimage, sowing new seeds that will yield an abundant harvest.

The team of flower arrangers is led by Mrs Barbara Megarry, artistic designer; and members from Northern Ireland Group of Flower Arrangement Societies (NIGFAS), together with St Mark’s Flower Guild.

During the weekend, we are pleased to announce that Mr Sandy Smith will give several lectures about C. S. Lewis and his connection with the parish. C. S. Lewis’ grandfather, Revd Thomas Hamilton was the first Rector of St Mark’s. Mr Smith will speak on C. S. Lewis and the First World War; his poetry; and his connection with East Belfast. In addition, we will show a Documentary about C. S. Lewis and Ireland.

Throughout the weekend, our drama group, St Mark’s Players, will read passages from some of C.S. Lewis’ books. These readings will take place in the side chapel where our Sunday School has provided a piece of floral art depicting Aslan the Lion.
