Diocese of Down and Dromore resources parishes with professional HR advice

The diocese is pleased to announce that it has entered into an agreement with Mark Mason Employment Law to provide parishes with access to employment law and HR advice.

From 1 May 2019, parishes will be able to login to an HR section on the diocesan website and download helpful templates of commonly used HR documents such as:

  • Statement of main terms of employment

  • Handbook of HR Policies

  • Job descriptions

  • Application forms

The documents will be updated as needed and will strictly be available only to parishes within Down and Dromore.

As well as being able to access helpful templates, under the new agreement, parishes who want to seek advice on a recruitment procedure or a matter relating to the employment of an employee, will be able to access up to one hour of advice on any particular issue up to a maximum of two issues per year for any one parish.

Diocesan Secretary, Roy Lawther, said:

“This is another in a series of diocesan initiatives which we hope will ease the administrative burden for parish leadership teams. HR and employment practices are an important area of compliance and we are delighted to be working with Mark Mason who I believe will offer an excellent service.”

Mark Mason set up his business in 2012 and over the years he and his team have built up a specialism in advising churches and para–church organisations on employment law matters, particularly those that relate to the Christian ethos of the employer. Mark believes that HR policies and practice should both be legally compliant and reflect the Christian ethos and is looking forward to being of service to the diocese in this way.
