Prayer the focus this St Patrick’s Day

Prayer for the Church in Ireland will be the focus of our annual St Patrick’s Day Celebrations in Saul and Down Cathedral.

Bishop David says: “I’m asking every parish to be part of this very special day when we will be giving out cards with the wonderful prayer for our land which has been handed down to us in the BCP:

Almighty and merciful God, who in days of old didst give to this land the benediction of thy holy Church; Withdraw not, we pray thee, thy favour from us, but so correct what is amiss, and supply what is lacking, that we may more and more bring forth fruit to thy glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

“I have invited every parish to send representatives who will take up the baton to pray for Ireland and inspire others join them. My hope is that all across the diocese, people will be praying for Ireland every day from St Patrick’s Day to Pentecost Sunday.”

Cross–community

Our annual St Patrick’s Day celebration gathers visitors from all denominations from Ireland and abroad. This year the preacher at Holy Communion in Saul will be Archdeacon Roderic West and our guest speaker in the cathedral will be the Bishop of Derry and Raphoe, the Rt Revd Andrew Forster.

All the details of the services, prayer pilgrimage, lunch and transport may be found here.

We hope to see you there!
