19 confirmed in Down Cathedral

We’re thrilled that Confirmation season is with us once again after it was put on hold by the coronavirus pandemic.

Bishop David confirmed 19 candidates in Down Cathedral on Sunday 25 April – 16 from Lecale Area Mission Partnership (LAMP) and 3 from Kilmore and Inch. It was the bishop’s first confirmation service for young people.

The theme this year is ‘The Good Life’ and the readings are Isaiah 58: 1–12, Matthew 5: 13–16 and Psalm 111.

In his sermon Bishop David called the candidates to be salt and light and to live a life of real distinction with Christ at the centre. He encouraged them to: “Stay close to God, stay close to God’s word and stay close to God’s people.”

In the Anglican tradition, confirmation is a milestone in a person’s faith journey and Revd Adrian Dorrian prepared all 19 candidates for taking this important step. For some this preparation began in–person but because of COVID restrictions, had continue online.

Some of the Down and Dromore confirmation traditions can continue in the pandemic with everyone receiving a DDYC goody bag and a gift from their parish but sadly the chocolate fountain is off limits for now.
