Bishops’ Appeal puts your donations to work

Thank you to all who support Bishop’s Appeal, the Church of Ireland’s world aid and development programme.

The Bishop’s Appeal Committee has met to allocate funds raised from parishes across Down and Dromore and the rest of the Church of Ireland.

Below are the main projects being supported from the most recent funds raised. Funds are channelled through charity groups on the ground.

Projects

£10,000 for Water Drops, an agency working alongside the Diocese of Kajiado in Kenya, for a water storage tank and distribution points in Lmoraro where people resort to digging in the river banks during the dry seasons trying to access water. £8,450 for a Christian Aid project supporting Pigeon Pea farmers in Malawi, helping them form cooperatives and access national and international markets. We funded this project before and are excited to see it develop. €10,000 for a Tearfund project building up foster family care structures for children who are or who otherwise would be placed in institutional care in Iraq. €5,000 for a climate positive training for small dairy farmers to increase milk and access to a protein rich diet and to reduce soil erosion and methane emissions. Channelled through Self Help Africa in 2 counties in Kenya. £5,000 for a CMS Ireland emergency response in Kajiado diocese providing food relief to 600 households and medical and financial supports for Covid sufferers and their families. €30,000 for two agencies – Feeds the Minds and their maternal health project in Burkina Faso, and Mothers’ Union and their literacy circles in Ethiopia.
