Parish Picnic for Knock

The parishioners of St Columba’s, Knock, recently spent a marvellous Sunday afternoon at a Parish Picnic and Sunday School/Crèche Prize Giving.

After a year and a half without being able to stage such a social event it was hugely uplifting to see the Parish family come together again in the spacious grounds of Campbell College. Mercifully, the weather stayed dry and warm.

It was pleasing to see such a large number of parishioners settle down to enjoy their picnics and gain so much from the fellowship of being able to chat to each other again in such relaxed circumstances.

Great catch–ups were had by all in an atmosphere of great conviviality and much humour. The sight of parishioners gathered around their picnic tables and the sound of laughter, whether from the adults or children, was a tremendous lift for all those who attended.

It was also marvellous to see the children running around in the open spaces so generously given to St Columba’s for the afternoon by Campbell College. It made it all the more special that such a significant number of our younger parishioners were there.

The long–awaited prize–giving for both the Sunday School and Crèche was also very welcome with much applause for the children from all those gathered on Campbell’s playing fields.

The whole event was a resounding success and reminded us all of how much we have missed coming together to enjoy each other’s company in such an informal setting.

Clearly the Rector, Canon John R. Auchmuty’s prayers for good weather had been answered on what was a great afternoon of craic and good company.
