Day of Prayer and Fasting – Thy Kingdom Come

A call to pray and fast on Sunday, 2 January 2022. As we enter 2022, let’s cry out to God to revive us and open a way for a spiritual harvest through an outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the church.

The past two years have been difficult for everyone as we have dealt with and suffered from a global pandemic. Covid–19 has taken many lives, brought sickness and fear and destroyed people’s livelihoods.

It has also had a devastating effect on the church throughout Ireland. Public worship and services have been affected and for periods postponed; children and youth ministries have been curtailed; festival events both locally and nationally have been cancelled; church attendance has been in decline; church leaders have been struggling with fatigue; pastoral problems have increased.

Sunday 2 January

And so we invite you set aside Sunday 2 January to pray and fast. Prayer is vitally important and something we all can do. Prayer can change Ireland and transform the next 12 months. Let us take up the challenge and join with thousands of others to pray!

On Sunday, 2 January, let us unite and rise up in prayer; let us take the authority that Jesus has given us. We are called to be victorious as we seek the Kingdom of God on earth, a kingdom that has power to overcome the darkness and bring hope to the world.

Let us meet with others to pray for at least one hour, either in person (if permitted and safe to do so) or online via Zoom. If that’s not possible, take time on your own to pray.

We would also encourage people on Sunday, 2 January to fast. If you have never practised the Biblical discipline of fasting, please see here further details. We have also provided a Guide to Praying for 1 Hour and details about Family Prayer Activities.
