Emma, you’re a star!

Emma Edwards, a final year Stranmillis College student, is coming to the end of a two–week alternative placement with the diocese. She has been shadowing our Children’s Officer, Julie Currie, and producing some great material to be used in our parishes.

Emma has been out and about including visiting Bumble & Bounce for babies, toddlers and pre–schoolers in Bangor Parish and Pre–School Praise in Holywood. Last Sunday, she and Julie visited Newcastle Parish and preached on The Lost Sheep.

“I’ve loved meeting lots of different people in different settings (including on Zoom!) and seeing how Julie supports them in their ministry,” says Emma. “It’s been great and I’m leaving with a really good knowledge of what children’s work is like at the level of a diocese and not just in a church.”

Emma, whose dissertation is on Collective Worship in Primary Schools, is a parishioner of Kilhorne, Annalong, and is very involved in her church. She is a Sunday School teacher, helps with Children’s Church and does children’s talks. She put her creative skills to good use during lockdown with the ‘Ziggy’ videos and even wrote a Nativity for Christmas.

Julie has high praise for Emma:

“I gave Emma a task before she even joined me, and she put together the amazing ‘Wander with the Wisemen’ resource for Epiphany which I have already shared with our parishes. She is someone who can just step into something and see what needs to be done and do it! She is very welcoming and can come alongside people very easily. Emma is absolutely sure of her faith. Everyone knows that Emma’s faith is the most important thing to her, and she just wants to share it.”

Emma we’ve loved having you. Watch this space folks!
