Death of Canon Eric Kingston

It is with sadness that we share the news that Revd Canon Eric Kingston died on Tuesday 8 February. Our thoughts and prayers are with Eric’s wife, Kathleen, his children Susan and Helen and the wider family circle.

The funeral service will be held in The Church of the Ascension, Glebe Road, Annahilt on Friday 11 February at 2.30 pm followed by interment in the adjoining Churchyard. Social distancing guidelines are to be observed.

Canon Eric Kingston

Canon Eric Kingston was born in Bantry, Co Cork, and served his entire ministry in Down and Dromore. He was ordained deacon for the curacy of Ballymacarrett in 1969 and served a second curacy in Knock from 1972–76 before becoming rector of Annahilt. The parish was grouped with Magherahamlet in 1982 and it was from this group and as Precentor of Dromore Cathedral that Eric retired in 1993.

Bishop George Quinn invited Canon Eric to become Diocesan Curate, a role he fulfilled for 35 years, arranging cover to make sure that worship continued in all our parishes. In October 2011 he stepped down from this post and continued to enjoy retirement in Ballynahinch with his beloved wife, Kathleen.
