10th Annual Sit–out for Revd Willie!

This year Revd Willie Nixon has reached a milestone at Drumbeg Parish with his 10th annual Rector’s sit–out. It may also be the coldest sit–out he has experienced!

Revd Willie sat out from 8.00pm on Sunday evening to 8.00pm on Monday evening in freezing temperatures, with a low of –5 at 4.30am on Monday morning being the point at which he wondered was it wise to be out all night! He persevered with the help of a brazier supplied by Drum House Nurseries.

So far £6700 has been raised for the ‘House to Home’ project delivered by Habitat for Humanity Ireland (HFHI). Revd Willie is grateful to parishioners, the local community, to family and to friends for digging deep at a time when everyone is tightening their belts financially.

He says: “House to Home is a great initiative from HFHI as they partner with NIACRO, MAX, WOMEN’S AID and DE PAUL Ireland to make it possible for the some of the most vulnerable in our community to get help with furnishing, decorating and refurbing their homes. Young people leaving care, women in situations of domestic violence and those transitioning from prison to the community often find themselves with accommodation which they simply cannot afford to decorate, furnish or equip. With the help of Habitat for Humanity’s ‘House to Home’ project their house becomes a home.

Paint, furniture and love transforms lives”.
